I have a YMCA membership that I never use. I’ve been holding onto it with the thought that it might come in handy when I can’t run outside. But I’ve recently come to the conclusion that there is rarely ever any reason to not run outside.
I can see needing treadmill access if you live in the city and only have access to flat, icy roadways and sidewalks. But luckily I live in the suburbs and have access to woodlands and conservation areas.
Yeah, it rains, gets slippery and muddy, snowy and icy. But, if the trails are icy, you just run next to the trails in the mud or posthole in the snow. If it’s rainy, muddy, snowy . . . well, if you’re an obstacle racer, that’s really no excuse.
On this cold, windy, snowy, icy March day, I came to the conclusion that it’s time to cancel that Y membership.
