What killed the Death Race?

For years, the Death Race was the standard by which all obstacle and adventure races were measured. When trying to understand how grueling and painful an event was, one always sought how it compared to the Death Race.

But the iconic event once held each June in Pittsfield, Vermont, came to an abrupt end when founders Joe DeSena and Andy Weinberg had a falling out in 2014, and the final one was held in 2015. DeSena even brought a lawsuit against Weinberg and other defendents, which was reportedly recently in the process of being settled.
